Bio

As a clinical geropsychologist, my work and research interests lie at the intersection of four areas of inquiry: 1) sociocultural experience (e.g., race/ethnicity, education); 2) cognition; 3) aging; and 4) health/fitness and health disparities. As such, my program of research examines how individual differences in sociocultural/demographic factors and health/fitness influence cognitive aging. I study how these differences work separately and together to affect cognitive aging and decline in African Americans. My work also seeks to understand and implement strategies for improving cognitive function in middle age and late life to prevent and/or delay cognitive decline and incipient dementia.

I am currently a research scientist in the Center on Biobehavioral Health Disparities Research at the Social Science Research Institute and a lecturing fellow in the Thompson Writing Program at Duke.
