In January I will celebrate 44 years in aging services and health care administration. I have directed an Area Agency on Aging for the past 21 years and continue to lecture at a medical school, school of nursing and a long-term care administration program at a local community college. Our agency has partnered with the Iowa Geriatric Education Center, University of Iowa for the past 15 on projects related to mental health and aging and currently substance use and aging with the SBIRT + instrument. We are training community health providers in motivational interviewing and utilizing the SBIRT + instrument.
