Bio

Suzanne Meeks is received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Catholic University of America. She is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Louisville, where she has been since she started as an Assistant Professor in 1987. Her research interests have broadly covered psychopathology and well-being in late life. Her early career research (funded by AARP and NIMH) focused on severe mental illnesses in later life. Her conceptual work focuses on understanding the structure and phenomenology of depression, anxiety, and affect in late life. She has consulted to nursing homes since 1988, and since 2002 has been engaged in NIMH-funded development and testing of BE-ACTIV, a behavioral activation intervention for depression in nursing homes and a prospective study of well-being of nursing home patients. At U of L, Dr. Meeks teaches undergraduate abnormal psychology, seminars in clinical gerontology at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and introduction to assessment for clinical graduate students. She serves on the Behavioral Sciences Section Executive Committee of GSA (term ending November 2014), was the 2008 President of the Society of Clinical Geropsychology, and a member of American Psychological Association Divisions 12 & 20, the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry, and has served on the Boards of Psychologists in Long-Term Care and the Kentucky Psychological Association. Dr. Meeks is currently the Practice Concepts Associate Editor for The Gerontologist.
