In a special session at this year's Gerontological Society of America (GSA) meeting in Washington, D.C., NIA Director Richard Hodes, along with NIA's scientific leadership, intramural scientists and grantees, advocates, and alumni, will reflect on major accomplishments in research to improve the health of older people since the establishment of the Institute in 1974. The session will also look to the future of the NIA and the study of aging, and will highlight an opportunity to provide feedback on NIA strategic directions in the coming years.

I would like to invite all meeting attendees to join us for this special session on Saturday, November 8, from 3 - 6p.m, in Room 202A in the Convention Center.

The two part symposium will begin by describing progress in research in aging biology, neuroscience, behavioral and social research, and geriatrics and clinical gerontology through NIA extramural support. The second part of the symposium will provide highlights from NIA's Intramural Research Program,  followed by a discussion of new directions in aging research from the viewpoint of the Institute director. Among the speakers will be Steve Austad, Eileen Crimmins, Neil Buckholtz, Luigi Ferrucci, and Richard Hodes.

I look forward to seeing you in DC in just a few days!

    Marie
