As Washington, DC's population ages, larger numbers of low- and moderate-income seniors are finding the daily demands required to stay in their homes more and more challenging. As we all descend upon DC next week, I want to recognize our colleagues who have volunteered their time to take part in a service event with Gerontologists Giving Back on Saturday, November 8 from 1:00pm-4:00pm.

With the support of GSA we've been able to organize an event during this year's conference on with
Seabury Resources for Aging. We will be working with their Aging-in-Place program and providing a range of yard work and house cleaning services to adults 60 years and older.

These personalized, affordable services and housing options help older adults in the Washington, DC area live with independence and dignity. Not only are aging-in-place services a critical piece of older adults' social safety net, but they also enhance quality of life. The Aging-in-Place program can make the difference in whether seniors stay in their homes or need to find alternative living arrangements.

As part of trying to include all GSA members in this year's event, we are asking conference attendees to donate any unused toiletries from their hotel rooms. You can drop off toiletries such as soap, shampoo, and toothpaste in the donation bins by Registration (at the Convention Center) or the President's Opening Plenary Session (in the Washington Marriott Marquis). Additionally, Seabury accepts basic household cleaning and yard work supply donations such as trash bags, latex gloves, or clippers.

Lastly, I would like to give special recognition to Brightview Senior Living who has so generously offered to sponsor this year's event! Brightview has senior living communities all over the east coast, and are hiring for a number of positions. For more information, see their website
